Intent

Baston CE Primary School offers a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based and which:

• Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils
• Prepares pupils at the school for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

Our Church School holds a strong Christian ethos whereby every child is valued and encouraged to work to their individual potential and is urged to explore their own intellectual curiosity. We intend for our children to always feel secure, happy and assured within the school setting and know that they will always have support from friends and staff regardless of the choices they make due to the high level of mutual empathy. 

Religious Education is recognised by all (Pupils, Staff, Governors, Visitors) as a priority in the life of the school. We come together through a shared vision which encourages staff and children to want to embrace change and move forward in our journey together.

Religious Education is an integral part of the whole school curriculum and can be seen in many different forms throughout the school.  By delivering a broad and exciting curriculum immersed in a balance between the traditional and the modern and the abstract and the practical, children embrace all aspects of education with Religious Education at the centre.

Across the school community great value is placed on collective worship; its place in school life and its impact on individuals. It continues to be a vital part of our school day and allows pupils to embed sound knowledge and understanding of our diverse world with a clear focus still on Christianity.

Our school values are embedded across the school and celebrated in every aspect of the school day. Everyone in our school understands our school values and how following the values will help all to be good people and serve God.

 

Implementation

As a maintained Voluntary Controlled Church of England Primary School, we fully comply with the legal requirements for the teaching of Religious Education by following the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education and the Understanding Christianity programme of study.

Religious Education is taught on a weekly basis in every year group from EYFS through to Year 6.

A daily collective worship remains a vital part of our school day as it allows children to continue to embed a sound knowledge and understanding of the diverse world whilst still focusing on Christianity. We use a three-part worship structure (local, national and global theme/religion). In class children are completing Worship evaluations on a weekly basis. This feedback is regularly evaluated and actions are taken.  Children are given opportunities to write prayers regularly in class which are displayed in a class bible; they are also free to take part in personal prayer during daily Collective Worship. Worships aim to always be inclusive, invitational and inspiring.

Teachers assess children’s work in RE and make formative and summative assessments throughout the school year.

 

Impact

The impact of our curriculum will lead children to know more and remember more about world faiths and beliefs. They will confidently know their role in our community - and in the world - and use this confidence to respectfully ask big questions that will change and challenge their own and others’ understanding.

We want our children to leave Baston CE Primary School demonstrating positive attitudes towards all others around them. It is our hope that the learning they have secured will enable them to understand other religions and why people choose, or choose not to follow a religion.

We hope that through Religious Education learning, our children are able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world, developing an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life.  

Impact will be further monitored by SLT and the governing body through termly, whole school pupil progress checks and subject scrutiny.
